Our Technology

Plasco employs a patented process that efficiently recycles heat from the process to gasify the waste and then uses the unique characteristics of plasma to refine the gaseous products into a clean, consistent syngas.

 
 

Our Technology

Plasco’s product is the Plasco Gasification and Plasma Refining System (Plasco GPRS).

Plasco and our manufacturing partner, Linamar Corporation, supply the core conversion technology in Energy from Waste Plants by delivering a patented process for the conversion of waste material into synthetic gas and marketable products. The Plasco GPRS efficiently recycles heat from the process to gasify the waste and then uses the unique catalytic characteristics of plasma to refine the syngas into a clean, consistent fuel. Plasma is NOT used to gasify.

Plasco GPRS has three stages of conversion of waste into finished products:  Stage One is the Integrated Conversion and Refining System (ICARS); Stage Two is the Gas Quality Control Suite (GQCS); Stage 3 is the Solid Residue Melter (SRM).

Integrated Conversion and Refining System (ICARS) & Gas Quality Control Suite (GQCS)

A decade of technology development and plant operation, with over US$400M and 1.2M man-hours has allowed Plasco to bring a versatile process to market. The Integrated Conversion and Refining System (ICARS) has been designed with a highly flexible configuration to suit the plant footprint. Plasco provides the Gas Quality Control Suite (GQCS) comprised of equipment purchased from 3rd party suppliers to ensure the energy rich fuel gas meets engine requirements and environmental standards.

Integrated Conversion and Refining System (ICARS)

Each ICARS will process 200 tonnes per day of urban solid waste. Larger plants can be built using multiple 200 tonne per day modules with no scale up. Multiple modules also increase system availability. ICARS is adaptable to a wide range of hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials of varying compositions and moisture.

ICARS receives shredded waste into the feeder system, moving the waste into the converter vessel where the waste is dried and the volatiles separated, using recycled heat. The waste is moved through the gasification process by the patented horizontal moving grate. With volatiles removed the residual material drops into the Carbon Recovery Vessel where fixed carbon is oxidized to CO and inert solids are melted to flow into the Solid Residue Melter (SRM). Temperature of melted waste is raised to optimum level before the liquid flows out of the SRM to meet atmospheric temperature to create vitrified and non-leachable slag suitable for sale.

The syngas passes through cyclones to remove particulate. Air or oxygen is then added before the syngas is exposed to the plasma plume. Plasma catalysis is used to refine the syngas by cracking long chain molecules, resulting in low-tar syngas suitable as an engine or turbine fuel after passing through GQCS. Plasma is used as a catalyst, not as a primary source of heat.

Gas Quality Control Suite (GQCS)

The GQCS is specific to the Plasco syngas. The design and specifications are done by Plasco, and components are sourced from third party suppliers. The GQCS produces a clean, dry, cool syngas fuel suitable for IC engines or gas turbines, or in burners to support heat production.

Plasco provides GPRS installation and commissioning support to EPCs.

Diversion of waste from landfill to fuel gas and clean, salable slag is complete. Nothing remains for disposal.

 

 

Economies of scale for capital and operating costs generally occur at 600TPD and above
